Award-winning apprenticeships

From an apprenticeship background himself, when Harry Fairclough started his construction company in 1898, he knew the value of training up young people and helping them to develop to their full potential. This enlightened attitude formed the foundations for what has grown into the award-winning apprenticeship training scheme Harry Fairclough is proudly associated with today. Here are some of the finer details of the scheme:

  • We’ve have been running formal apprenticeship schemes structured around a mix of practical and college training for over 60 years.
  • Our current programme is based on a two year NVQ qualification gained through a local college followed by two years practical experience.
  • The two main trade disciplines covered in recent years are joinery and bricklaying.
  • Around 5 apprentices are currently enrolled each year, with approximately 15 apprentices under employment at any particular time.
  • Since the inception of our structured training scheme we have trained in excess of 300 apprentices.
  • In the last 10 years, only one apprentice has failed to complete the training, giving us a success rate of almost 100% - an industry record.
  • We enrol all of our apprentices from colleges local to the region namely, St Helens and Warrington Collegiate.
  • All our apprentices are paid in line with CIJC Construction Rates (16-19)
  • Approximately 50% of our current tradesmen and site staff have graduated from our apprentice training scheme.
  • Recent awards gained by our apprentices and presented by Warrington Collegiate include:

2008
Brian Marshall-Heath
Certificate of Outstanding Achievement, Overall Student of the Year

2007
James Cavangh

2006
