Stuart Wignall

Name: Stuart Wignall

Position: Senior Quantity Surveyor

I have been a part of the Harry Fairclough team for 13 years, always within the civil engineering division of the business. My role covers much more than quantity surveying. I get involved in the pre-construction aspects of a project, estimating, and setting up the scheme, working closely with subcontractors and attending pre-award meetings through to agreeing the final account. There is a real team ethos at Harry Fairclough, which is part of the reason I have stayed with the business for so long – along with the fact that I get to work on a diverse range of really interesting and rewarding projects. These can range from highly technical works within a petrochemical plant to the construction of new lock gates on the Manchester Ship Canal and quite a lot of them are around the £1 million mark but several have been far in excess of this. I can be working on 6-10 schemes at any one time, under several different forms of contract, which keeps things interesting and I like the fact that could be involved with something completely new and different at any one time. From the point I land onsite, I can take either an overseeing or hands on role depending on the size and scope of the job. This means that pricing valuations, cost reporting, client liaison. and working closely with the engineer to forge an effective team are all part of my role. Harry Fairclough began life as a family business and it’s always maintained that friendly, approachable and straightforward feel that I believe our clients really value.”
